We've all heard of the "Gut Microbiome," but new studies reveal something surprising: The bacteria living in our gut can directly affect the brain, and even the appearance of dizziness and floating sensations.
So how is the gut connected to balance? The gut is not just a "digestive system." It is a neural and hormonal communication center connected directly to the brain via the Vagus Nerve, which is also responsible for regulating the balance system. When there is Dysbiosis (imbalance in gut bacteria), it can cause inflammation signals to the brain and disrupt vestibular blood flow.
What did studies find? A 2023 study found a link between certain gut bacteria and recurrent vertigo attacks. Even certain probiotic supplements showed a significant reduction in dizziness sensation in some subjects.
So what can be done? Studies pointed to improvement in people who added: Fiber-rich diet and fermented vegetables; reducing processed sugars; checking personal sensitivities (gluten, lactose).
Do you feel a connection between gut symptoms (bloating, pain) and days with more dizziness?
